When the thermometer arrived the first thing I did was boil some water to check the accuracy of the counter. I was surprised to see that the gauge read 209°F instead of 212°F. But then I figured it would be best to check the elevation of my house, which turned out to be 1171 feet above sea level. Entering this number into the "Water Boiling Point vs Altitude Calculator" on the internet revealed that water boils at 209.9° at my altitude. So that eased the anxiety. I was then a bit worried about the volume of the alarm, but it seems loud enough to use in my kitchen without worrying about not hearing it. My only complaint about the counter is the lack of a setting that remembers choosing degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius. Every time I turn the meter back on, I have to reselect the Fahrenheit setting.
