Heavy duty canvas - you will need to order the floor mat separately but only if needed. My 72lb German Shepherd fits in, but only when lying down (with the top closed) which is great for travel or very short assisted births. There is no place to sit because it is too high, no place for a water bottle and bowl inside. It's dark when everything is closed so you can understand why some of the test dogs reacted, especially when left alone. My dog is crate trained and free in and out of his XL transport cage at the airport (permanently installed as this is his den) so he doesn't mind getting into this new one and knows to lie down - I don't see look at this and would not use it for cage training or with an untrained dog for a regular cage. I would use it for back seat/neighborhood transport, not a dog with or without a seat belt. visiting someone or at home with guests but under full supervision as you can see how an unattended dog, especially one not used to a cage, can easily break it. My only wish was that it would be as tall as an airport travel crate, but that would probably make it less handy than portable. It was definitely worth the price and I'm glad I have a durable and quality wearable option!
