Fits 15mm drives with unique read/write media hub

*Received product for free in exchange for review*I was looking for a new case to replace the my old 4TB Seagate Backup Plus (ST4000LM016) from a USB 3.0 to USB-C connection. However, it's difficult to find ones that fit 15mm drives, or the ones I found were "expensive" considering it's just an adapter replacement. Elecgear makes one and I'm keeping an eye on it, but it's $30. For $40, this device changes my drive to USB C and adds a USB hub memory card reader. Not what I really need, but an added value, otherwise a simple cost change. This is a great solution for anyone working in content creation as one device/cable can help back up MicroSD/SD cards to internal storage. With some setups/software this can even be automated when the drive is connected. The ports do not require you to unplug/plug the entire device when swapping USB and SD. Quick note: I appreciate the quality of the packaging and the fact that they use a USB cable to stow it inside the case to minimize the space and materials needed to ship the add-ons. I'm not sure if this was an active thought in the design of the packaging, but it's a detail that helps save money nonetheless. Best Benefits: β€’ Simultaneous read/write of Micro SD and SD. This is a BIG deal as there are LOTS of card readers out there that don't actually do this and require you to read from one to the other. β€’ Support for 15mm drive. This is another big problem as it's very rare to find decent cases that support those thick 15mm drives. β€’ USB-C conversion. β€’ The lid doesn't look like it's going to close. The lid can actually be a little tricky to remove, but that's a good thing as it doesn't slip off and I appreciate that. β€’ Healthy choice of dietary supplements. Depending on the size of your disc, there are three thick foam pads and one on the end of the cover to handle the end of the disc. They appear to be made quite apt. Well done in this area. I would have preferred the TAD to be narrower for a 15mm last but really nothing to complain about. After all, the original case doesn't use them. β€’ It seems to dissipate heat fairly well. The device heats up, but does not heat up. There's nothing bad to say about him. He is who he is and does what he does. There might be a few downsides, but in general just small improvements that would be nice, and a WARNING. Cons/Adjustments: β€’ The lid doesn't fit perfectly flush (as shown in the picture), but it's small and not a big problem. . Just something that could be solved. β€’ There is some space on the sides at the end of the drive bay where I would like some rubberized end caps similar to those in my original case. They don't have to be thick, just enough to rub against the plastic and fit into the screw holes. As you can see in the picture this would require minimal extra space and I'd like to use the existing ones from my original case or it would be great to add some thin ones as extras. 2 total for device/disk end. When the cover slips, the actuator has more friction inside the case. The case is really just a sled, there are no additional methods to protect it other than attacking the SATA port. on the opposite side where the drive is accessed, or the USB ports are swapped so that the USB ports are right side up when you lay this unit with the xLED toward you, allowing you to easily remember how to use them. It's not like this. It's difficult to just do one of those things that also looks better aesthetically if it doesn't appear like the device is upside down. drive when converting an external USB 3.0 to USB C and offers value over other options that support 15mm in a similar price range. Unknown company but amazing quality. Keep up the good work and maybe I'll add a new brand to my list of trusted accessory brands. WARNING. Do not try to use it with another unpowered USB hub. This caused a power surge in Windows and these devices on the hub were disabled until the hub was replaced with another USB port. Some computers can also disable the port before rebooting to prevent card corruption. Not all computers have this protection. All in all, it makes sense considering how much this device can potentially draw. It is best used with a dedicated USB port or with a *Powered* USB hub. This is actually not a device fault, so no plus/minus, just a warning. (Disclaimer: This is with a 4TB 15mm 5V 0.85A drive inside. Smaller and thinner drives that have fewer platters and use less power may not experience this. Your mileage may vary, it will however recommended to stick to a dedicated port.)

Pros
  • Slim aluminum body and compact body
Cons
  • Anything I can add
