Review on LEZYNE Steel Drive Floor Gloss by Joseph Reed

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well with Presta valves but with a caveat.

This is a very high quality and durable pump. The inflation hose is the longest I've seen on a floor pump and allows you to inflate bikes that are still attached to my hitch rack. People don't seem to like that you have to unscrew the pump head every time you use the pump, but I bought this pump specifically for this feature. All of the clip pumps I've tried put a lot of lateral force on the valve stem when you attach them, and it usually takes two hands to remove the head after inflation. As a result, I broke several valve stems. This pump head can be screwed on and off with one hand and no unnecessary force is applied to the valve stem or core. It will not unscrew the core as long as it is properly tightened. That said, a Presta valve tool is built into the opposite end of the head. People have complained that the crown takes longer to unscrew, but the difference is only a few seconds and it only takes a few turns for the gasket to close. Once screwed it is very reliable and does not leak at all. I'm disappointed that the pressure relief valve doesn't relieve tire pressure on Presta valves. It just depressurizes the pump line to make unscrewing easier. This is because there is no protrusion on the nozzle side of the Presta pump to press on the valve stem. This also means that the pump gauge will not accurately measure tire pressure until the pump pressure is higher than the tire pressure. If you add too much air, the only way to let it out is to remove the pump and manually push on the valve core. There is a lug on the end of the schrader valve though, so it will let air out of the tire but will also leak a bit if you unscrew it. I wish there was a removable insert that would press on the Presta valves, or if pressing the pressure release would press on the valve. Overall I'm happy with this purchase as I keep the pump in my SUV most of the time and only use it for airing. turns on when I forget to use the compressor at home or take a multi-day trip from home. I even used it to inflate tires on a friend's ATV. It's definitely a solid device made mostly of metal and seems like it's going to last a long time.
