I thought this 24" vacuum tube was just what I needed for my 24" aquarium with a sandy bottom. I figured that with the longer length, not only would I be able to suck up my sand without putting my arm up to my elbow in the water, but also without sucking up a pile of sand. Both assumptions are correct. Hands won't get wet and sand won't be absorbed. However, the length of the hose prevents heavier particles from going up the hose and down the drain. Even with the python siphon pump turning the water on full blast, small items like displaced plant leaves and heavier food debris only rise halfway up and hang there while light dirt and diatoms float by. I'm not saying this is a bad product. Just understand its limitations.
