My dishwasher rack had a couple of teeth that rusted on top where the original plastic cover had worn away. A typical problem with an aging dishwasher. PPX tine covers were developed to solve this problem. Just slide them over your supporting teeth and you're done. Well, not so fast. My dishwasher had typical 3mm tines - probably just the right size for these lids. But the setup is tricky. Coarse rust on the tips of the teeth had to be filed away with a metal file along with remnants of the original coating before there was any hope of fitting polypropylene caps. Then some kind of lubricant had to be applied to the tips of the tines before the new caps even started fitting the tines. I used vegetable oil. That was enough to install the covers, but in order for them to slide completely over the existing original plastic cover I had to use pliers to gently push the new covers down until they bottomed. After all that, the new covers look great. Their gray color matches the existing color on my teeth. And they don't slip! Ultimately, the real test will be how long they last before cracking or tearing. I can't talk about it.
