Review on Hario Drip Coffee Decanter 700Ml by Jennifer Davis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good pot set / Chemex alternative

I chose this one over Chemex because it was cheaper. As long as I like it Excellent coffee and very tasty. It is fairly easy to clean and serves as a very good decanter after boiling. In terms of brewing, it comes with a Hario V60 plastic filter funnel that fits into the carafe itself. I wish it wasn't plastic so heat retention would be a little better, but hey it's nice and compact. Based on the markings on the carafe itself, it appears to be suitable for 500ml of liquid, but as this is a fairly large carafe you could probably hold more. Just so you know, this contains a size 02 filter and comes with a couple of bleached white 02 filters to start with. The silicone grip is good. It's easy to remove and replace after cleaning, making it easier to reach when you need to clean it. I removed one star because it tends to lose heat very quickly. I was able to solve this problem by heating all the components with boiling water. I think this is where Chemex shines. The glass is a bit thin for a Hario decanter so I think the heat transfer is pretty fast. Another complaint is that the spout isn't very accurate. He has the ability to dribble into corners. Also, I really like this system and find it effective for pourovers. If you need to save money and are familiar with V60 or other fill filters, then this set is for you. If you're looking for a thicker carafe and want your coffee to stay hotter longer, use a Chemex or pour your coffee into a vacuum jug after brewing.
