I tried several other Wi-Fi cards before buying this one. I figured I could save $10 and still get a good wi-fi card. Well, it turns out that the rest of the cards are worthless because they don't work properly. One, a February smart card, caused my computer to randomly reboot. The other, from Ubit, was just a crappy card that connected unreliably and although it claimed to support both 2.4 and 5GHz it never connected at 5. I have both the Netgear R8000P and the Mikrotik Tried HAP. -AC2 with other cards so I don't think the router was the problem. In addition, a few laptops have no problems with any of the routers. I guess I'm a slow learner because it took me a few tries to decide to just buy a branded card. I paid a little more but got a much better card and it really works as it should. It connects instantly every time and seems pretty fast too. It was autodetected by both Ubuntu 18.04 and Arch Linux. I didn't have to mess with drivers at all - it just worked.
