Please read the small notes in the M.2 SATA Drive Installation Guide carefully!

I bought this MB to replace a 7 year old Gigabyte I7 motherboard that has cut me very well but is a bit dated. After struggling with it for a day, I'm almost ready to get it back, even if it would be a real pain. The specs say this motherboard has 8 SATA interfaces, which is true. However, if you add an M.2 SSD, it turns out that the M2 drive assigns one of the SATA interfaces - in my case #4. That would be fine, except when you plug something into the SATA 4 port , the MB will not see it. I could live with that. But the killer thing is that every SATA 3 drive I plug into port 5, 6 or 7 - it sees NO devices! I wrote an email to gigabyte support. It also turns out that although MB sees the drive in SATA-2, Windows does not recognize it. All drives are fully functional on other desktops. So be aware that they promise you 8 SATA but only 3 out of 8 seem to work for me! EDIT: I found a post on the Gigabyte forum and it turns out that if you install your M.2 SATA drive in a slot with a heatsink, your last four SATA ports are disabled. If you install it in the top port, seven of the eight SATA ports will work.
