The rubber seal on the stainless steel lid smelled of petrol!

Lid/rubber seal smelled of petrol. My first lemonade recipe, open the lid after sitting for a few days it smelled so bad and strong I couldn't believe it and felt bad my family drank from it! I removed the rubber seal and filled it with water, it didn't help. So without a seal, the lid is useless. Big pitcher.
