LEDs are typically marketed as more efficient than incandescent bulbs. I think the only potential benefit is power consumption (if any). In my experience they are not cost effective given their price and lifespan. Literally three months later, a lightbulb is already blinking and needs to be replaced. Support has never returned letters for a replacement under warranty so now I have to buy a new one. At the same time, their "environmental friendliness" can be questioned - I've never had to dispose of an incandescent lamp after 3 months, but with LEDs this happens quite often from a pack of 6, one becomes DOA, and several others will go soon after their installation. Then, in terms of energy efficiency, you can easily get a CFL that also lasts longer than an LED on average. I suspect the reason LEDs fail so quickly is in the circuitry. I wish we could have access to Dubai's low wattage lamps but that doesn't seem like a good idea. These particular bulbs get ridiculously hot while running, to the point where you can use 6 of them with a fan to make a little space heating, so I'm not entirely sure how energy efficient they are. Much of the LED hype seems to be just marketing.
