Got Bernzomatic butane for it from Home Depot for about $5. Started immediately, burned out for about 5 seconds, then switched off again. Then. It didn't glow. After 60 or 70 hits it caught fire and I used it for about 10 or 15 minutes. After that, it lights up reliably every time! I think you need to light it up and use it for a few minutes to "burn through" but I'm not sure. Take it, fill it up, light it up and use it for a few minutes before switching it off again. Maybe this works better for you. I love this iron, best iron I have ever used!
