The best cordless soldering iron your money can buy!

This is my 3rd pen in 10 years. The first served 6 years, fell down the stairs and broke. The second was stolen, so here's my third. It does everything I need and more. Gets hot enough to solder ground to protected Cat6 connectors. I love that it comes with heat shrink tubing!

Pros
  • Best in its niche

First light took a while

Got Bernzomatic butane for it from Home Depot for about $5. Started immediately, burned out for about 5 seconds, then switched off again. Then. It didn't glow. After 60 or 70 hits it caught fire and I used it for about 10 or 15 minutes. After that, it lights up reliably every time! I think you need to light it up and use it for a few minutes to "burn through" but I'm not sure. Take it, fill it up, light it up and use it for a few minutes before switching it off again. Maybe this works better…

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Damaged

As long as it burns near 0% of the time. not good.

This is an early review as I only had it one day. So far I've fired it probably 50-75 times and it actually fired 3 of them. I nearly had a tank of gas on fire on the last ignition just in case it was necessary. I will try again tomorrow but if she doesn't get better soon she will need to be taken back. After trying to turn it off and back on for two days, it comes back. I can hear gas escaping and see a spark when the slide button activates, so I really have no idea why it's not lighting up. I

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
