***EDIT*** I downgraded my rating to one star because I noticed that most of the pictures for the 6 1/2" vise are from an older, larger model and are no longer made This model appears to have been much better in overall build quality. You can tell which it is as the handle, main screw, pawl and front of the vise are rusted and lacking paint. There is also a crankcase pin at the end of the main screw to prevent the vise from falling apart. The rest of the product photos of different models are misleading.*** FINAL EDITING*** I see there are a lot of reviews here that suggest that when ordering this vise something could go wrong, most likely it will.I am building a small multipurpose bench for gluing, painting and as a small workbench that I use for small ones Working in the house or in the workshop can move. This vise would be ideal because it has a built in pawl. I knew that getting the right vise would be risky (many here got the model without the pawl) and would be a small miracle if they weren't broken or rusted. Well, I've got the right vise. model and it was not covered with rust. Very poorly drawn, terrible casting. But it works as intended. Check with an angle, it should be flush. The thread on the main screw is NOT acme but fine thread. The main screw is steel and the vise is of course cast iron. Thin steel threads cut cast iron under heavy use. For this reason, most vises use trapezoidal threads. The puppy is not sprung. It's just a piece of steel that uses a bolt and wing nut to lift it up and hold it in place. Overall, these grips are rudimentary at best. But it works and it's the right size for my needs. Because it has a built-in pawl, I can use thin scraps of wood as pads and have maximum opening space. I feel happy after reading other reviews here. If you don't need a built-in pawl, I recommend an Irwin or Yost 6 1/2 vise instead. The build quality of this vise is so gross it should be embarrassing for Olympia Tools. On the outside of the vise are a couple of a good half inch cast iron balls. They were simply painted over. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it costs less than $20 to get what I ordered and it hasn't rusted or broken out of the box. However, I wouldn't normally recommend this thing unless you want to play and have a very simple use for it. The inner facial threads simply tore and began to fall out in small pieces. When I tried to examine it the front jaw slipped out and I wasn't expecting to drop it and the corner broke off and the dog fell out and detached from the nut welded to it. The thing is complete garbage. I've never seen metal just dissolve. IMHO this is useless junk that can't even perform basic functions. Avoid this junk at all costs. ***EDIT 2***
