Review on πŸ’Ž Sony E 50mm F1.8 OSS Portrait Lens (SEL50F18/B) Review: A Black Gem for Captivating Portraits by Chong Wong

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I expected mediocre quality, but the product was pleasantly surprised.

I wanted fifty dollars for a long time, I used to shoot on a manual takumar of the 70s through an adapter, but I decided, now, to please myself. I can't say enough good things about the lens. Strong HA, it focuses very uncertainly and slowly (this generally applies to the Nexus, but especially with fifty dollars), and therefore I shoot in DMF mode in low light or special scenes - and here the large stroke of the focus ring is very annoying - while there is no distance scale . It catches some lilac hares, the sharpness is not amazing. The price is not good. But the bokeh of the lens is pleasant and even, given that fifty dollars are bought for the sake of it, then you can look at the shortcomings with indulgence. Made with high quality. It is convenient to carry - the regular 16-50 just enters the hood, so I carry them one in the other so that they do not take up space. After 7 years) As of 2022, I replaced it on a crop with 35 / 1,8, and + took a full-frame half-frame - it is without a stub and also a brake, but it gets up on a7 and costs the same - about the same in the picture.

Pros
  • he is. good bokeh. stabilization. working f1.8
Cons
  • sometimes just hellish HA; a very large stroke of the focus ring (in manual mode), on which there is no distance scale; not purebred rabbits.
