I love all UniFi components and have almost all installed. I prefer rack mounting when possible, but that creates too much fan noise to fit in a quiet office space. I've settled on a non-professional gateway that's fanless, or at least completely silent, for the job. The fans turned out to be regular 20mm fans, so I opened them up to see if they could be swapped out. They use a standard 3 wire fan connector so everything is plug and play. I used the Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX, which produces the same or even more airflow than standard fans and is imperceptible through noise. There are two heatsinks that barely feel when the device is on but not under load. So for about $30 and 5 more minutes you can use this anywhere. They generally disclaim that you are most likely voiding any device warranty and this information is provided solely with the understanding that you accept all responsibility should you choose to attempt this. So, go ahead and have fun modding.
