A good gateway in the UniFi family. Can be completely silent.

I love all UniFi components and have almost all installed. I prefer rack mounting when possible, but that creates too much fan noise to fit in a quiet office space. I've settled on a non-professional gateway that's fanless, or at least completely silent, for the job. The fans turned out to be regular 20mm fans, so I opened them up to see if they could be swapped out. They use a standard 3 wire fan connector so everything is plug and play. I used the Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX, which produces the sameโ€ฆ

Low power consumption but good functionality

I already have several UBNT access points and several UBNT switches in use at home. They are all controlled by my Gen 2 plus Cloud Key and Edgerouter 12 which does the routing. I've always wanted to see what features are available and how well the USG routers perform, so I bought the Pro 4, which is less powerful than my ER12. Well, it definitely has a very good feature set and integrates perfectly with the Unifi controller. I have a 300/12 connection. UBNT claims to support IPS and DPI atโ€ฆ

speed and power! suitable for network products

Bandwidth USG Security Gateway Pro offers throughput for DPI and IPS at 250 Mbit/s. A "residential" USG security gateway (small) has a maximum throughput of about 80 Mbps. In my area, Comcast offers residential 250 Mbps for a reasonable price. This means a smaller USG had to be upgraded to get the full internet speed I paid for. USG to USG Pro wasn't difficult at all - I just deinitialized the old device and physically removed it from the network. A new device connected, accepted and theโ€ฆ

If set up correctly, GET THE FULL 1 GBPS!

I really like this gateway/router! Complements my Cloud Key and 2 AC Pro Access Points. Okay, time to dispel some bad myths about this box. The fans in this device are not noisy. Compared to my switch and other items, it is not even audible.2. I have a 1 Gbps fiber connection coming into my home office. When my device was properly configured, I lost NOTHING in anything, whatever it is! I have Deep Packet Inspection enabled but not IPS. I'm getting my full 950 Mbps - 990 as before installingโ€ฆ

  • Almost everything is there

Reliable UTM gateway and sound issue fixed!

I've wanted to switch to a full-fledged 3rd physical layer UTM gateway for a long time. Before that I used Sophos Home UTM. Already invested in UniFi for WiFi switching and management. It was a very logical progression. This review focuses on throughput issues with UTM gateways and fan noise. Overall, despite some caveats, this is a solid buy. For example, the DHCP service capabilities are very limited, but something tells me that people are not buying this SG because of its amazing DHCPโ€ฆ
