Pencils and charcoal are a bit difficult to use.

I really wanted to have this set. The zip case is a real "YES!" for artists who want to take their charcoal kit with them. I really liked the three sizes of nibs and two types of erasers. I was very happy to see the white pen. Everything in the set fits comfortably and securely in the elastic holder. The photographs of the drawings, complemented by this set, show a dog showing the side of its body, a man and a woman. Charcoal is well removed with an eraser, creating lighter areas. For comparison with the Koh I Noor Gioconda set, a brown dog was drawn, facing forward. I really appreciate the brown and red art supplies in this set. The dogs' eyes in both drawings were drawn with a white gel pen and a black micron pen. All drawings were inspired by Yong Chen's teachings. I tried sharpening a white soft charcoal pencil four times. It broke every time. It seemed to work once, but when I touched the tip of the paper, it broke off. I work with both pencils and pencils in the set I am reviewing. With both pens and sticks, at one point they refused to put charcoal on paper. With the Koh I Noor Set I didn't have this problem at all. I can't know for sure, but I'm wondering if the problem could be the uneven distribution of the binder in the charcoal and pencil? I mostly worked with a soft charcoal pencil. I wish the pens and pens in this set were sturdier and the white pen was more comfortable to use. I would also appreciate inclusions of brown and red, like in the Koh I Noor set. While I love the zip case, I cannot recommend this set highly enough. I've looked at various websites that recommend charcoal painting sets and no brand of charcoal painting set has stood out in the reviews. Someone likes the Arteza set, someone Generals. There were several other brands that were very reasonably priced. Given the issues I've had with this set, I would suggest getting a few pencils or pens from whatever brand you're looking to buy and seeing how they perform before spending money on buying the entire set.

Pros
  • GOOD QUALITY - Sketching pens are made of eco-friendly material, not easy to break, glide smoothly and feel comfortable. Professional pencils of different hardness allow you to draw with more color options.
Cons
  • Very expensive
