We bought this thermometer when our previous thermometer (OXO brand) failed (the probe broke off the thermocouple). I was able to have my OXO repaired but wanted a replacement and I couldn't be happier with the choice. This meat thermometer is easy to use, suitable for both connected probes and corded probes, and measures temperature very quickly. I tested both my OXO fixed thermometer and this meat thermometer in boiling water and was impressed by how quickly this meat thermometer read temperatures (between 210F and 212F, but this could be due to heat stratification in the water - the OXO brand was similarly bouncy too) , while our previous thermometer took much longer to reach the "final" temperature. too impractical to have the sensor with the cable in the box next to it. The thermometer works exactly as described, the unit has a backlight to see it in low light and a very audible alarm to let you know it has reached the prescribed temperature. recommend!
