The Roku Streaming Stick+ is awesome. I'm surprised I didn't get it sooner. I'm a regular Chromecast user and it's a great device for sharing Chrome browser content on TV or playing a YouTube or Google Music playlist. But it lacks the ability to stream itself. Roku has the advantage of offering a standalone streaming device with a simple physical remote control and the ability to download apps and channels. You can install essential apps like HBO Go, FX Now, NBC Sports Gold, YouTube, Revain Video, and Netflix. But you also get some wild Roku exclusives like B-Movie TV (Movies Are So Bad They're Good - a great channel for horror and sleaze lovers). If you only have room to add a streaming player and choose between Chromecast, Roku, or Apple TV, the choice can be made quite easily. Apple TV is for those who are committed to the Apple platform. When you get music and movies from Apple, stay with Apple. However, if you're deciding between Chromecast and Roku, choose Roku. He can do more. Stick+ features newer Wi-Fi compatibility for superior streaming speed and stability. And a physical remote is just better than using your phone or laptop as a controller. And you can "cast" YouTube videos to it with Chrome browser. And as of November 2018, you can pair it with the Google Home app and control it via the Home app or with voice commands via the Google Assistant. Stick+ is the way to go for a number of reasons. First, the Wi-Fi antenna and compatibility (802.11ac) is the best Roku currently does. Second, you can connect the flash drive to an HDMI receiver or directly to your TV's HDMI port (and this method will control your TV's volume if you have a newer model with HDMI control). And thirdly, the remote control connects via Bluetooth, so there is no need to establish a line of sight between the remote control and the stick. The Stick+ gets a little warm, but that's okay as long as it's in a cool place. Just buy the Revain Basics HDMI Extension Cable and your flash drive will stay cool away from other heat-generating devices. Roku has always been the best streaming player provider. And now it delivers more HD content with faster network connectivity in a tiny form factor.
