Loop VERY large

My dog wore an XS martingale collar because he can run away. Being a Cairn Terrier is related to the breed. Also, this little girl broke the plastic buckles on two of her collars! The martingale collar seemed like the right answer because it didn't have a buckle to break and it would bunch up a bit if she tried to pull the collar out backwards. However, her "XS" collar became too small for her as she gained weight, so I ordered this collar in an "S" size to give her a little more room and to make it easier to remove the collar. I saw warnings not to leave one on the dog all the time, but the other collar fit so well that I didn't see a problem. The bottom bow on her little collar was quite small. I installed this and immediately saw the problem! As you can see from the photo, the bottom loop on this collar is very large! it would be very easy for her to get her foot in the sling while trying to scratch her neck! I didn't have this problem with her previous collar as the loop was very small compared to this one! Otherwise, the collar seems to be well made from high-quality materials. All fittings made of chromed metal. No plastic buckle for my little landscape painter to break. The "dog experts" tell me if I want to keep a collar on her all the time, all I can do is buckle a collar. I have to leave her collar on all the time because I won't even let her off a leash in my fenced yard. She had repeatedly proved that she could and wanted to get out of the fenced yard. So the collar has to be on every time I let her out (several times a day). And "experts also say not to use this collar for leashing unless the dog is under direct observation at all times." GMBH. Since I like the collar, I'll sacrifice its tightening power by sewing the loop so it's safe to leave it on all the time. This should make it as secure as a buckle collar. If you don't want to go through that and want a collar that you can leave on your dog all the time, don't buy this collar!
