Review on Petmate Exercise Snap Hook Included Different Dogs by Jose Fongdara

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great value exercise pen - easy to set up and take down even for an elderly person like me!

I bought this run so my two Chihuahuas could get more sun than we do on our daily walks and so I can sit outside and relax. My yard isn't fenced and since I live in a rental house I can't just put up a fence so this was the perfect solution. The kit includes eight panels (one has a gate) connected together in one long piece, 4 carabiners and six ground anchors. When the handle arrived I was very surprised at how easy it was to install, even for an elderly woman like me (I'm 56 and not very strong). I was able to install and remove it on my own. You get eight panels connected with metal clips that fold accordion style. You take them out of the box and start shaping them into the shape you want. There is a logo on the gate so you know which side is up and which side should be facing out. Upon receipt, the gate piece comes with a plastic bag containing six anchors (see photo) and four carabiners that you use to connect the two ends together. Be very careful when adjusting the grip on level ground, especially if you have backhoes. You slide the panels out and then use four carabiners to connect the two ends together. Fasten the panels to the ground with six ground anchors to ensure stability. The pen is great for my two dogs, even with my youngest jumping on it and barking at passing dogs. Walk-through gates are a great convenience as they help keep your pets inside when you open the gate to get them out. A big plus when you have fast runners like me. The only tool I used was a box cutter to open the package. No tools are required for setup. One pen wasn't big enough for what I wanted so I ordered a second one. Putting the two together creates a really big grip, but it does seem to reduce stability a bit. Not where it's dangerous, but I wouldn't leave a large, active dog alone on the street. See photo of the instability (slight tilt) when I opened the gate after doubling the pin size. Some helped install all the anchors. For a larger dog, I agree with the other commenter that posts would be fine. If you want to remove the spring after each use, a cup hook pull rod is a big help - you don't have to bend down to find and pull out the anchors when you use them. I had one that I ordered here from Revain after suffering a stroke and it finishes up these anchors quickly. No additional carabiners or tools are required to connect two such handles together. See size photo of two combined handles. UPDATE April 2017 - I still use these two grips together and still give them five stars. I learned two things that I wanted to convey: 1. My dogs are small (Chihuahua mix breeds) and one of them hit her thigh while jumping in this pen. I added stone slabs to take steps in and out after finding a lump on his little thigh from jumping. (Dogs don't tell you when they're in pain, you just have to find out) 2. The ground anchors that come with these handles can be difficult to find when moving the handle. The last time my lawn mowers moved the paddock to mow underneath, they could only find one of the anchors. However, I have found more similar ones here on Revain by searching for "tent poles, simple anchors" and buying them. I also ordered red enamel to paint on them to make them easier to find as they almost disappear once you push them into the ground. I did not receive a discount for this review, I am an honest reviewer. I just like praising great products for what they deserve. UPDATE: I am still using these two pens over two years later and they are still in great condition - I have the pens in my front yard all the time and they hold up great and don't rust or break even in bad weather. This is a really great purchase and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again if anything happens to the ones I have! It's very easy to lose the ground anchors that come with this product, but I've found a great replacement for them here at Revain. - Type this name and press "Search": ALAZCO Galvanized Steel Tent Pegs - Garden Pegs - Heavy Duty. I bought a set of these and painted them red to make them easier to find in the grass.
