I bought this cord for hiking and hammock hanging. The tear strength is 240 lbs, which means the actual working load of this material is about 1/5 of that. So I wouldn't trust 1 thread over 48 pounds. I have been able to use 4 strands per side on my hammock and it works well. 1 strand is enough to pass my tree bag as a bear bag. What I like best is that it's much lighter than the Cable 550. I used to take 35 feet of the Cable 550 on hikes. I am now listing 75 feet of this material for the same weight and size. It works as a repair piece for my hammock, my backpack, I hang my bear bag from it, make cloth slings from it, pull my tarp with me and much more and when I need it = 550 cord I just take 2 strands and tie them every 5ft or something together. Rope saves lives in the forest and I prefer Paracord 550. I only give it 4 stars because of the smell. If you bring it to your face you can smell it. It's annoying and I try to keep it away from my kitchen utensils.
