I bought a 2006 BMW X5 with navigation and in order for the new panel to work you have to solder the whole car. So I took it to the store and they said it would cost me $250 to install and I need to buy the first extension I found online which is the cheapest $80. And after all this, the buttons on the steering wheel still do not work. Not to mention adding a rear camera for another $100. So it might work on some cars, but if your car has a screen instead of a simple radio, you'll need to run a new wire through the entire body of the car, from the back to the front.
