LP playback upgrade paths for this entry level player

Lots of comments on this unit, I will only highlight the possible upgrade paths and options for this player. There are two main upgrade paths: 1) signal input via LP playback and 2) signal processing and audio output. The signal processing and audio output part can be improved by using the line out of this unit bypassing the built-in speakers to connect it to a pair of external powered speakers and there are many possibilities here. Here I focus on the upgrade path for LP playback. Some of the fundamentals that could be improved include upgrading the device feet as well as the disc mat to offer better vibration dampening, but the focus of the playback upgrade will be on the stylus and possibly the cartridge. The unit comes with an Audio Technica (AT) $25 3600L Moving Magnet cartridge, made by AT in Hangzhou, China (and sold there for half price), and an ATN3600L - Stylus is equipped. Also known as the Rega Carbon, Music Hall Melody, two LP Gear models (CF3600LE and CF6500LE) and dual DMS251s, this cartridge has received a lot of good reviews so it's actually quite decent for an entry-level LP player. Some suggestions here include replacing with a cantilever version of this carbon fiber pickup (3600CF), replacing with a more compatible ATN91 or AT3651E stylus, and Signet Model 100 elliptical styluses (which should improve on the ATN3600L conical), also from AT. . The original tape on the device may not be the most accurate or detailed tape, but it is very easy to listen to and very entertaining. Its warm tones and smooth highs will appeal to many people and will probably suit the unit well enough (I replaced the cartridge myself with an Ortofon 2M Red, but depending on your musical tastes it might not be much better than the standard with the improved elliptical stylus). have fun !
