Review on High-Speed USB WiFi Adapter with Dual Band 2.4G/5.8Ghz and External Antenna for Windows/Mac by Bobby Frazier

Revainrating 4 out of 5

If you are looking for an honest, uncompromising review, please read on.

Most of the five-star ratings for this product come from reviewers who received the product for free or with a deep discount in order to give a positive review and improve the rating of the product. These reviews are exaggerated (just look at the 5 star count and reviewer profile to be sure). I usually avoid products with reviews like this, but at this price (under $20 and free shipping on Prime) I decided to take a chance and buy the product (full price with no incentive from seller or manufacturer). If you look at my previous reviews, you'll see that I've purchased and tested at least four other power supplies (again, at full price) over the past few months. Unfortunately I have been disappointed with all of these products so far and have returned them all (thanks Revain for the great returns policy). I tried upgrading the Rosewill N adapter, which provided decent speed, but couldn't take full advantage of the AC router's network speeds. By purchasing an EDUP AC 600 adapter I was finally able to almost make it. I have a Linksys EA7500 router that supports 1300 AC speeds and a RA6500 power strip that supports 867 AC speeds, so the speeds promised by the EDUP AC 600 adapter are definitely possible on my network. While I haven't yet reached the adapter's promised 600Mbps, I have doubled the speed of the Rosewill N adapter from 144Mbps to around 325Mbps for the EDUP power supply. Since I bought it a few weeks ago, the EDUP adapter has been used consistently with no loss of connection or downtime. I think that's quite remarkable given that the adapter is one floor down and about 20 feet from the router, and also on the same floor but about 30 feet from the power strip in a nearly 3000 square foot house. It gets four stars for bad writing. and translated instructions, as well as an outdated driver CD and setup requirements. Recommend if you're using Windows 10 or 7 to allow Windows to find and install drivers and use the Windows wireless management utility instead of the clunky disk-based Realtek utility. I've tried EDUP on both a Windows 10 desktop and a Windows 7 HTPC with no issues. I'm happy enough to buy a second one to use with my son's room laptop, but not impressed enough to give it 5 stars or spend more than $25 on it.

Pros
  • Note: First install the driver from the CD (included) and then connect this Wi-Fi adapter to your computer.
Cons
  • Some small things
