Review on Motorcraft KM4528 Upper Radiator Hose by Mike Lawler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The picture is wrong. this is the coolant manifold from the intake

2000 Ford 4.2L V-6. This part usually corrodes and leaks. This is the coolant pipe from the intake manifold (right side, above the thermostat housing). The dealer wanted $1600 to replace the entire intake manifold etc. To replace the part: Get 2 gallons. Antifreeze, new thermostat and gasket, intake manifold gasket (top only). I also replaced the water pump. Drain the coolant and remove the upper intake manifold. Remove the thermostat housing and the thermostat itself. Remove the hose from the leaking elbow. Tap the elbow with a long thin chisel (drill) to roll it up near the inlet. Usually the pipe breaks. Then insert the broken piece into the thermostat hole. The fragment falls from below where the thermostat used to be. Clean the surface and install a new arch. Use blue caulk around the pipe and press on the inlet. Remember that the thermostat goes to the engine with a spring! Apply a thin coat of blue sealant to the surfaces of the gaskets.
