If you're mechanically inclined, this shouldn't be a problem.

This part saved me hundreds of dollars. If you have a Ford 4.2 with a coolant hose leak then this is what you need. Replacing it is quite difficult, but worth it if you know how. You can craft a tool to drive it directly from a piece of steel water pipe. Be careful when you put it in the distributor because if it doesn't go straight in you'll have to buy another one. I got mine for the first time and it's like new.

Pros
  • Installation Type: Vehicle Specific
Cons
  • Long Wait

Two repair shops (dealer and dealer) told me that the lower part needs to be replaced. Dealer named three pieces, 1679 for the floor and 8 hours of labor). However, her mechanic mentioned that the connector was corroded. I did some research and after reading the reviews on here I gambled on a $17 bypass tube. Now the truck is running. Thanks for the tip guys!

The dealer wanted $1600 to replace the entire intake manifold etc. To replace the part: Get 2 gallons. Antifreeze, new thermostat and gasket, intake manifold gasket (top only). I also replaced the water pump. Drain the coolant and remove the upper intake manifold. Remove the thermostat housing and the thermostat itself. Remove the hose from the…
