Not Ready for Prime Time

Wife picked these very attractive waterfall (antique well pump) faucets to compliment her decor and I installed them. These faucets are pretty solid and seem to be well made from bronze castings machined to accept the valve parts and hoses. The valve levers operate smoothly and control the water flow well. The inlet hoses also seem to be well made. They come with an inlet seal/screen which seals the hose to the home's water supply valves. They work, but they also plug up easily. The included printed instructions reccomend removing and cleaning the screens if water flow diminishes, which has happened with both of these after about 3 weeks use. Removal for cleaning entails getting under the sink, turning off supply valves, disconnecting the inlet fittings to reach the screen/seals located in the inlet hose ends. REALLY! Imagine doing this every few weeks when they plug up! Single lever faucets have been available in the U.S. for at least 60 years and most manufacturers have incorporated faucet outlet "aerators" with screens which trap sediment inherent in the water supply and are easily removed and simple to clean and reuse over a faucet's lifetime. Not so with these faucets. There does exist an outlet screen, which removal for cleaning appears to be problematic. My solution to plugged inlet screens will be to install roughly half pint line filter screens for each line which should result in one to two year cleaning intervals. Seems to me that the Chinese manufacturer might want to incorporate a better solution into the faucet design. Automobiles used to be hand cranked to get them running and then Kettering introduced the electric starter. That's the kind of improvement needed for these faucets. We love the look and feel of these faucets and at roughly $55 bucks each, a pretty good price compared to U.S. name brand plumbing fixtures. And even those might not be an improvement unless better designed. A last point, thanks to Revain Prime, I was able to get replacement for both of these faucets which arrived defective. One had a leaking inlet hose, the other had a cross threaded tailpiece on the pop up stopper (furnished with the faucet). All in all these faucets are a good bang for the buck but may come with attached headaches. Good luck!

Pros
  • easy install. Love the push drain stopper
Cons
  • The supply lines hose may require regular maintenance to prevent leaks
