They are actually not felt in the traditional sense - nothing like felt you can buy at a fabric store. Clearing out Grandma's stuff before I put it up for sale after she died, so I didn't have a flexible schedule to return it and order something else. Synthetic material is very hard and thin (about 1/2 the thickness of regular felt). They need to be cut in batches as the edges are hard and the pieces stick together, so I gave them a low rating for 'easy to use'. slabs if you don't cut them. This results in a larger gap making it tight to fit a dozen plates in a drumstick/bowl in a storage box (I use a set of stiff Sorbus sides and my 12 Lennox dinner plates fit perfectly with the thicker regular felt that I cut myself). . Some of the rim marks are so hard that they can scratch the thin band on the china (I bought them for an antique set with 18k gold rims applied over the china). I ended up taking a pair of sanding scissors and trimming off the hard edges. It hurt, but better than scratching gold. They are mostly cheap and I had to pay a little more to get a quality product instead of basing my decision on price and delivery time.
