We bought them for half price only to have them sound like crap and break the CD player. Buy this and get a 4-year warranty for an additional $7 and you're done. I have a home stereo that costs about $4,000, so I have pretty high standards for what I want to hear. Sure, it doesn't sound as good as my real stereo, but it sounds great for its size and price. They've come this far in terms of digital-to-analog conversion for CD players, which basically means CDs sound a lot warmer and more engaging than they used to. And the CD player is up to date so you can burn a CD with 50 or 60 songs in MP3 format for 4 or 5 hours of music. It uses a CD tray, which in my experience is less likely to break than other mechanisms. We don't take it with us on trips, only for the bathroom, kitchen or cellar. I think you'll wear it out quicker with more shock and impact if you take it out of the house. But maybe it's made for that, but I guess you'll endanger it if you carry it around without being particularly careful not to drop it etc. It needs batteries so you can take it with you. It's with you, but I wouldn't take it anywhere without insurance. Insurance often brings in a lot of money for the seller, but that doesn't mean it's not worth it for you. This insurance is so cheap that it is not a problem.
