No remote control is included - it gives a special button for switching modes. The lights don't have Bluetooth connectivity, and their initial setting when connected is to glow randomly. Lights are pretty much just lights and nothing else. The button to switch between modes is also right on the plug, making it quite difficult to set it up the way you want. . You can simply hang them from curtains or even have them drape lightly on a faux leaf backdrop to add some life to a dull backyard or studio apartment. They have a decent amount of lights and lengths so should cover just about any aesthetic choice you might want to make and as far as I can tell the lights don't heat up unusually but I don't know if I would trust that they stay on all the time. The light stays on initially and only changes when you press the button on the plug. So it's annoying when you want it to always turn on your preferred settings and toggle on and off that way. I personally agree with the always-on backlight, but I'm also fortunate to have the connector in a place where it wouldn't be too bad to get at if I want to switch between the two. Works best in conjunction with a Wi-Fi connection so you can toggle the Whim on and off as you please. As for decoration, I'd say it would fit almost any room in the house or dorm (especially).
