Review on Dorman 79540 Driver Replacement Interior by Alex Taylor

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works perfectly. First remove the door panel.

Like many others, the driver's door latch on my '99 TJ broke at the keyscrew, so it popped out every time I pulled the handle. I installed this to fix it. I have to say to anyone who thinks about it: it becomes twice as easy or twice as difficult if you remove the entire door panel first. This gives you much more room to fit the bars into the lock and latch connections. If you try to replace it with the plate still in place, you won't have room to disconnect or reconnect the rods behind it. Also, there's a good chance you can move the latch's rear attachment point and reattach it immediately by removing the door panel. I speak from experience because I have done it. It takes some fiddling, but it's not the worst thing I've had to work with in a Jeep door. 5 stars for the product, 3 stars for the ease of installation. Overall I was concerned by some of the reviews that the door knob was cheap, flimsy and broke after X weeks so I was afraid it might be cheap too. I read the reviews and left. So far I like what I see. It doesn't bend or deform and I can open the door from the inside. Nothing to say. Does its job and (so far) well. I would recommend it to any TJ owner who needs one.
