This is the first Hot Dots workbook that we have used and I am impressed. The workbook is sturdy and durable which is perfect for little ones and the pen is included. The workbook is colorful with images of items that are recognizable and appealing to children. The content is age-appropriate and covers various different math concepts for the Pre-K level. The pen is easy for little hands to hold. You will need batteries as those are not included. There is a volume button on the pen so you can choose to hear sounds or not. The button can be accidentally pressed because of where it is located so that is a minor drawback. You do have to press the tip of the pen directly on the correct dot to get the green light, but there does seem to be some leeway and my little one understands to line the pen up before pressing. My almost 3 year old loves playing with this workbook and pen and especially loves getting the green light. It's an easy way to work on the math skills that I want my daughter to have before school. It's entertaining for her and so easy for me. We love it and I will definitely be purchasing other workbooks to continue the learning.
