Review on VuPoint PDS ST442PE VP Magic Wand III by Hugo Caywood

Revainrating 5 out of 5

For its intended purpose, this scanner works very well!

I've owned this very handy handheld scanner for a few years now, so it's time to share it with photos. This was not a Revain purchase, my wife ordered from one of those TV shopping channels. As a gadget lover, she thought I would like it. She was right. I archive a lot of photos and videos for family and this has become as important as my camera and handy for scanning newspaper/magazine articles quickly and easily. It scans at 300, 600 and 1050 dpi. Once you get the hang of it (with a little practice) you can achieve amazing quality. I've even scanned framed photos very successfully, even those hanging on the wall. A classic black and white image from the 40's and 50's with a bit of editing after it comes out sharper than it really is. Although of course I want to compare it with my Epson V600, but I can't take my Epson by the arm and go! I use a SanDisk c10 32GB micro SD card and have never had any recording quality or uploading issues. Depending on usage, you will pass AA in 2 or 3 months. I always have a spare in my (extra) hard case. The scanner was delivered without a hard case, only a soft case in the photo, I bought the hard case from Revain. Dust is bad for scanners, keep them in a case and keep the rollers clean and they will serve you well. When my wife gave me this device for the first time, I was a bit skeptical. However, I have found that I use it more often than not. Almost every day and over time it has proven to be very functional and durable. You can purchase an optional scan tray for use as a flatbed scanner. As an inexpensive alternative to a fully-fledged flatbed scanner or 3-in-1 printer, this is perfectly adequate.

Pros
  • 3 permissions to choose from! 1050 dpi (high), 600 dpi (high) and 300 dpi (low)
Cons
  • The list is getting long.
