I have used BRS GFO but based on some recommendations decided to give ROWAphos a try. The first thing I have to do is get out of the way. Don't believe the hype that this medium doesn't need to be flushed. Be sure to flush the media. This is not a blow to the product but simply to dispel the bad information that is floating around. The product works well with it. My only complaint is with the grain size. In general, it is slightly smaller than the large-capacity BRS. This proved to be a problem in my innovative marine reactor, but some adjustments and adding thinner foam pads solved the problem. Testing for phosphate without a photocolorimeter will generally always show 0 ppm, if phosphate is low using Hana or another meter will provide accurate readings. Readings when properly calibrated. My LFS offers this service and in the last month I have noticed a significant drop in 2 cycles of ROWAphos.
