I recently retired and have decided to try painting! I do this for fun, using a different part of my brain (I'm a geek and don't care for art!). I also have a 5" x 5" watercolor paper guide and a small set of the same type of watercolors. pen included in such a set. I was surprised how good this watercolor set is! It closes securely and is easy to move 2. Has a wide range of colors 22 colors plus white and black block (total 24 colors of one size)3. Includes a small sponge ideal for dampening paper before painting; to remove color if I want a lighter color; or hatch or mix colors. It is also included in the kit.4. The set is made of durable plastic and has 2 removable empty palettes for mixing colors. These palettes snap into place on either side of the paint tray (much like little tables on either side of an outdoor grill, LOL!). This gives me enough room to mix colors before applying them to paper. Very convenient!5. The kit also includes a small square ceramic plate that I use for color proofing6. Including 2 water handles. My first thought was, that they looked cheap and I would never have used them. However, after using it once, I was so surprised that I ordered more! These pens are easy to dip in a glass of water, squeeze while the tip is under water, and release. The bubbles come out as the handle releases air and then fills with water from the glass. (I just use a polypropylene McD cup filled with tap water). Then, when I put the wet brush in the paint bowl, I can just squeeze out the pencil if I need more water. They pick up the pigment easily. They don't get very dirty either. With 2-5 pens filled with water, I can easily paint 2 sheets of 5x5 paper without having to stop and clean my brushes. Simply dry the brush with a paper towel, after I'm done with this color, then squeeze the handle and the tip washes off a little; wipe again; Add water to the pen, quickly press and release into my McD cup and I'm ready to use different colors. Finally, I downloaded the free PicsArt app on my phone. I take photos of my little paintings, then adjust the colors, add borders and voila, I have a set of drawings to print or send as e-cards. I've received compliments from friends and family and I enjoy it. I drew a picture for Earth Day and sent it to my friends. You definitely don't need a phone app to have fun with this kit. So play with colors, swirls, dots, etc. and enjoy your time with good music. Summary: The kit is a great starter kit, just add paper and imagination. Ideal for any age from 8 to 100 years.
