looks like an acid washed stone - received about 9 pieces with a few broken end caps added. The largest piece is great, costs a little more than the LFS, but you don't have to lug it home. I have 2 very tan pieces that I used as support under the substrate for larger pieces/driftwood stability, they don't match at all. I have several Lifegard Aquatics products and am happy with all of them. Buy an invisible look, you can't be sure, but I was satisfied. Some large rocks locally can cost 50-100 for a single rock which is crazy, this set was at the top of my budget but I was in dire need of a hardscape. My water chemistry hasn't changed much (add gh/kh/up ph) but I use active substrate and other products for my planted aquariums. I like the way it looks but if you have a large tank (over 55 gallons) it will be rare (again depends on your design), 15 to 40 gallons is best for this set in my opinion. good luck everyone
