Review on TecTecTec ProWild S Hunting Rangefinder: Angle Compensation Laser Range Finder for Hunting – Range Scan, Speed Mode, CR2 Battery, and Normal Measurements by Abbas Kumar

Not accurate enough for archery

The one I received has a 2 yard error at medium ranges. The readings are accurate up to 20 meters. Between 20 and 30 yards, my meter reads 1 yard down. My meter reads 2 yards short between 30 and 100 yards. It's not clear beyond 100 yards, but seems to be 1-2 yards down. Regarding angle compensation: the compensated distance is not very useful. For example, if you try to take a 30-yard cool shot on a 3D archery course, the device may ask you to set 29 yards. However, the threshold angle at which it is recommended to cut 1 yard seems too low. In other words, the device tells you to set your scope at 29 yards when in reality you should set your scope much closer to 30 yards than 29 yards. As a result, if you follow the area with the angle compensation displayed by the device, your arrow will usually not reach the target. However, the angle reading is useful - you can use it to calculate quickly and get better results. This rangefinder can be more useful for long-range firearms, where bullet drop per yard is much less than arrow drop per yard. This can be useful for golf or other situations where less precision would be appropriate. The optics allow you to adjust the focus/diopter, but there is no way to focus on the target and the LED display at the same time. One will be slightly blurry - you can choose which one, or choose an option in between to have both slightly blurry. Also, sometimes it won't turn on. From time to time you have to remove/insert the battery. Something is not connected properly and/or the buttons are cheap and unreliable. If I could find these imperfections fast enough I would return the block as 'defective' as it is totally unsuitable for archery and that is one of the main markets for angle compensated rangefinders.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • I have no particular complaints about it, everything is fine
