Review on Renewed Linksys WRT1900AC Open Source WiFi Wireless Router - AC1900, Dual Band by Scott Channell

This is for the Linksys WRT1900ACS as Revain seems to aggregate all Linksys reviews rather than by product. Works fine but I'm using 3rd party firmware. The downside of Linksys is their firmware and lack of support. For example, they stopped supporting the WRT1900AC V1 after 1 year. I like the design. I've been using the WRT54G for several years and this design reminds me of an old router. In my opinion, don't buy this router if you want to use the firmware provided by Linksys. Has bad wireless drivers and based on the past they won't provide new improved firmware in a year or two. The hardware has great specs, but the firmware doesn't take advantage of them. I'm one of those people who doesn't typically use OEM firmware on their routers. I buy routers with 3rd party firmware like Openwrt, LEDE or DD-WRT as they offer much more support and features than OEM. At the moment I am using LEDE firmware on my WRT1900ACS V1 and it works great. Just for now, and this goes for OEMs too, the 5GHz wireless support could be better. Bandwidth is not as good as it could be. Still good and getting better. Linksys has been sorely lacking in third-party support, although the ads for this router and third-party firmware are ready. This assumes, of course, that third-party developers got what they needed from Linksys. Mainly WiFi drivers. All in all, not a bad router. Gave 4 stars for poor OEM firmware and lack of 3rd party support.

Pros
  • routers best, understandable even for the old
Cons
  • . There are nuances.
