When used with a visible sticker it is a great and inexpensive deterrent for criminals and unwanted guests.
I installed them as a deterrent in case I have to leave town for more than a few days. I think they work well when paired with a sticker. Shortly after installation, around 10pm, I answered a few emails before going to bed, so all the lights were off and the house was quiet. I heard someone open my front screen door. There was a 10 second pause, then the screen door closed. They did not knock (like a friend or neighbor would) and I did not find a business card or brochure as one would expect from a lawyer.
