I've read complaints about a knife with rust on it and this could be it. Mine looked like it had some rust on it as well, but it looks like the knife has cosmoline or something coated on the blade and I could rub it off with my thumbnail. Whatever it was, it looked like rust coming off with the coating, so I'm guessing it's just dust or dirt. I've also heard complaints about tip breakage. I haven't had this problem either, but no matter how hard the core steel is, I can see that this can happen if too much torque is applied, maybe try Mora-Basik for such situations, it's also good for carving and complement this knife.
