Very Important Brake Advice

This bike was incredibly painful to assemble due to a specific brake issue. The rest of the build was easy, easy to moderate, for a non-instrumental person. It took me about 40 minutes to install the bike without the brakes and then another 3 hours of brake frustration. This is a U-shaped brake design. It came with an overlay worn directly on the metal part of the rim. Applying the brakes will stop the wheel if it is spinning, but will slip while riding. I spent a lot of time thinking that the problem was not enough tension on the wires. My friend came over and helped but neither of us could figure it out. The instructions are pathetic and describe completely different brakes. After drinking beer, hearing "I told you so" from my wife, and swearing unimaginably many times, I read all the reviews for help. No specific advice but 1/3 of the bad reviews complained about the brakes and the other positive reviews liked the brakes. One person mentioned U-Brakes so I posted U-Brakes on YouTube. YouTube on request "Mongoose BMX brakes" does not help. The first video led me to salvation. Tip: You should place the brake pads on the lower edge of the rim as shown in the picture. It cannot be aligned with the middle part of the silver border. It only leads to skidding. Bam, fixed! TL:DR total = Place the spacer on the bottom edge of the rim. Saves 3 hours and scolds. Directions SuckKid likes it because of the color and it's cool white yet nothing about long term quality
