Great bike. Great transition bike

I was trying to find a bike to take our son off his Strider but didn't want a bike with a pedal foot brake (I wanted a free ride) like I think you are pointless as every adult BMX or MTB will have a freewheel rear hub. Also, I still wanted him to learn how to use the handbrake. This bike is an amazing value at $149 compared to cheaper old big 12-16 inch bikes priced at $80-$150. Good and wide tires (almost between a regular tire and a big tire bike) should help in learning balance. With the…

The reason they sell Mongoose at Walmart.

Update: Downgraded from 2 to 1 star, bullshit. The front wheel does not get air, you have to buy a new camera. As soon as there is air in the rear tire, it rubs against the brake controller, which cannot be moved. You will need lower profile tires on the already replaced seat post. BE READY TO GET 50 MORE DOLLARS ON THIS BIKE JUST TO USE IT! I wanted a better model than what Walmart was selling doesn't seem any better. The seatpost is 7 inches long and extends up to 1 foot from the crankshaft…

Reliable bike for older kids/adults

Let me start by building a few kids bikes and converting my own (mountain) bikes. This is a reliable bike that I bought for my 12 year old. old (<5ft) that my 9 year old can ride like me (6ft). It was fairly easy to put together (instructions were clear) and all parts were included; nothing is broken/damaged. According to the specifications and the picture, this bike model has only one rear brake, which works as it should. My kids don't ride ramps or rails or do tricks; I ride on road and…

The worst motorcycle in the world?

Waste. Literally. In a month in the trash. This bike stinks. Here's why: I bought this to teach my kid to ride a bike. What could be a better bike than the Mongoose?! I mean it was an AMAZING bike when we were kids. Apparently not today. After unpacking and reassembling it, throwing away the huge box and taking it with me for a few workouts, I realized something was wrong. Am I assembling it wrong? So I took a closer look. and found that both the fork and frame were bent. The top cross member…

Very Important Brake Advice

This bike was incredibly painful to assemble due to a specific brake issue. The rest of the build was easy, easy to moderate, for a non-instrumental person. It took me about 40 minutes to install the bike without the brakes and then another 3 hours of brake frustration. This is a U-shaped brake design. It came with an overlay worn directly on the metal part of the rim. Applying the brakes will stop the wheel if it is spinning, but will slip while riding. I spent a lot of time thinking that the…

Beautiful BMX Mongoose bike! Adjusting the brakes is difficult.

Pros: Nice bike, similar to the old school BMX Mongoose I rode in the 1980's. Looks great! Got a black and orange combo. Heavier steel frame than full chrome/aluminum, but heavier steel helps younger children balance. Looks sturdy and will last my 8 year old daughter for years. I doubt it will stand up to half bike or skate park tricks, but for $250 it can't beat it. and hiking trails. Great entry-level bike for kids. Cons: Needs a lot of patience. "Major PITA" for readjusting the handbrake…

We've searched everywhere for the "REAL " pink BMX bike.

My (almost) 8-year-old daughter recently started riding BMX at the skate park. She had a 16-inch piece of BMX junk from Toys'R'Us, so we knew it was time for an upgrade. She wanted to keep the bright pink style that most little girls love but wanted a real BMX for the park. This task seemed almost impossible. SIZE: Many other bikes are a more professional style/size and cost twice as much. We did some real research because it's not just tire size that matters, but top tube length as well. She's
