Beautiful BMX Mongoose bike! Adjusting the brakes is difficult.

Pros: Nice bike, similar to the old school BMX Mongoose I rode in the 1980's. Looks great! Got a black and orange combo. Heavier steel frame than full chrome/aluminum, but heavier steel helps younger children balance. Looks sturdy and will last my 8 year old daughter for years. I doubt it will stand up to half bike or skate park tricks, but for $250 it can't beat it. and hiking trails. Great entry-level bike for kids. Cons: Needs a lot of patience. "Major PITA" for readjusting the handbrake! The instructions are thorough with detail and photos, but still omits many small important details after each section of brake line and parts of the handbrake and Ubrake adjustment. I spent hours moving and adjusting step by step to get the desired result. Harder to adjust the brakes for a kid because their hands are smaller and they lack grip strength, so you also need to relax the grip tension and move it so it's pointing up at a 75 degree angle. It was sent straight down, requiring large hands and grip strength. The pedals don't brake when pushed backwards, so it only has a single rear U-brake that usually has very little locking of the rear wheel, and it's more like a slide stop. I suggest adding an optional front U-brake, which is standard on most kids bikes, for safety reasons. The small extra cost and time is definitely worth your child's life.
