Review on πŸ”Œ Ryobi HP108L Compact Cordless Kit by Doug Virden

Great 8V drill. Good for small chores or a general exercise in your home tool kit.

TL;DR: great value for money. Good for small tasks. Bought this drill to use with my hard 12V. I usually keep one drill for screws and heavy work, and a second mostly for pre-drilling pilot holes or installing 1" Phillips screws. My current one was a big cheap 18v. Good drill, but I would like something smaller. Now to the point: First, it's the build quality. That's great. Feels good. Looks great. Continuous. It looks like a premium drill. The battery consists of two high quality LG 18650 batteries. The electrical components that might need this don't actually have a heatsink, but this is a lightweight 8 volt drill so it shouldn't get very hot. They are also in close proximity to the fan. I should also point out that with this drill, everything looked a bit remanufactured, which is great. It's a lightweight and fairly compact drill bit, as you'd expect from a decent drill chuck. It can't drive 3" or even 2" screws in hardwood, but it can drive 3" screws in softwood, which is what you'd expect from a small 8V drill. It's really more for lighter tasks. If you want to do something heavier, get a compact 12v drill. The only downside I can find is the battery. The battery is of good quality, but the battery life is a bit short and it takes a while to charge. It might help you with a small project with no problem, but if it goes beyond that, you'll end the day as soon as it dies. Great drill for the price and specs. Recommended for people who just need a home power tool or a cheap compact drill for light jobs. 6/18/20 Still using it as a side drill. No problem.

Pros
  • High test results for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
