Leak through o-ring

Like many other Cummins owners I don't like how difficult it is to remove the oil filter so I was excited when I saw this filter with a wrench. . Installed at the end of October, everything seems fine. Last week I smelled oil and crawled under it to find a horrible oily mess all over it. Confirms that the filter is flowing through the o-ring. I've been changing my own oil for over 30 years and this has never happened to me. Thought maybe it came loose and I wasn't squeezing it enough. Turned on about 8 turns, but it didn't help. Today I replaced it with a regular filter that I used before. The wrench on the idea is neat and I'm not entirely sure why it happened, but I'm not sure I'd want to try again. There is too much at stake when it comes to engine oil loss.
