🔍 K&N Premium Oil Filter: Engine Protection for 1989-2019 RAM/DODGE/STERLING (Ram, 2500, 3500, 4000, 4500, 5500, D250, D350, W250, W350, Bullet 45, Bullet 55) - HP-4003 Review

I have used these on my 2010 Ram 2500 Diesel over its lifetime of 316,000 miles. I trust K&N to make a quality filter, the price is reasonable, and a 1" hex on filter makes removal MUCH easier than fighting a filter that's stuck after 10,000 miles (I use full synthetic oil).

I have never had a problem with anything related to K&N products. I have used their oil filters in everything I have owned and still have. This design, especially on 6.7 Cummins with a 2nd generation replacement, takes a huge load off your shoulders when changing the oil. I can do everything from below and not remove the nozzles from the turbine and not turn off the sensors. For some, this is a problem in itself, and some trucks can take you an hour to clear the code.

Ok so I can't really tell you if this filter is actually any better than an OEM filter or any other aftermarket filter. I bought this filter because of K&N's reputation over other filter options for the Ram 2500 6.7 diesel engine. My five star rating is really based on two factors. 1. Buying through Revain was $3 cheaper than buying through Wal-Mart. 2. Ability to use an open-end wrench to loosen the filter instead of a filter wrench.

When I first saw how to change the oil and filter on my Dodge Ram 2500 on YouTube the guys went as far as removing the plastic Fender trim over the tire. You play with me. With a filter wrench or a chain wrench, it is very difficult to get to the hard-to-reach place where the filter is located. Adding a puller nut to the bottom makes this job easier, and K&N are known to have pretty good filters, so it's a win-win.

Like many other Cummins owners I don't like how difficult it is to remove the oil filter so I was excited when I saw this filter with a wrench. . Installed at the end of October, everything seems fine. Last week I smelled oil and crawled under it to find a horrible oily mess all over it. Confirms that the filter is flowing through the o-ring. I have been using K&N filter products since the 1990's and have always been happy with their products until I started using their oil filters. I always use the rule of thumb: finger tight until the filter contacts the housing, then tighten 3/4 to 1 turn.
