I was a bit hesitant to purchase this knowing it could be a big project and wary of quality, durability and compatibility. It was really a little tricky to install; but that's not entirely the fault of the block. Due to the difference in year/model/options, it is difficult for the product to be truly "plug and play". My case is no exception. I have a 2005 X5 with DSP Premium Sound and factory navigation. The system crashed about a year ago and I'm sick and tired of it! I removed all factory hardware except for the speakers. I bought these passive crossovers - Rear: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N9866QM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Front: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ B00N987TC2 / ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Two cable harnesses were included with the device, in my case I needed a flat cable harness. Unfortunately it was in the back under the spare wheel :) I had to extend the wiring as needed, running RCA to a four channel amplifier (installed in the dash panel under the spare tire) and to a two channel amplifier (for factory fitment). sub - installed instead of a regular amp) It took me a lot of time; but then it really depends on the vehicle. One oddity I had was that the buttons lit up when the volume was turned up. I still don't understand why, but it seems to be related to the handlebar adapter. I disconnected the orange wire (backlight) from the wiring harness and the problem was gone. At the same time I installed a reversing camera. In the end I couldn't be happier, this system rocks. The sound quality is generally excellent, with no noise or interference. AM and FM radio reception is as good or even better than before. Hands-free/Bluetooth streaming works fine from my Iphone 7 IOS 12.3. GPS reception is usually fixed very quickly. The rear camera works perfectly and looks great. The audio is muted accordingly when turn-by-turn instructions are required, etc. Conversational features are stopped on incoming/outgoing calls. The lighting dims nicely when the headlights are turned on. The steering wheel controls work the way I want them to! The backlighting matches the interior perfectly (which was an unexpected bonus) and the BMW boot logo is preinstalled. I installed a Crucial 128GB microSD card and loaded it with FLAC files - the system sounds MUCH better than the factory one and the OEM sub woofer actually surprised me too (I used to hate it for being so weak ). In case I haven't already explained it, I LOVE this system. It loads fairly quickly and is very responsive. The split screen feature is very cool as it allows you to use the navigation and entertainment features at the same time. WiFi performance is good; I've connected it to my house so it downloads the latest podcasts as soon as I'm in range so they're ready to go the next day. So far all my issues except durability have been resolved. I haven't had any problems after two weeks, time will tell how well it withstands the extreme conditions of the car interior. Based on that, I purchased an extended 4-year warranty; but even if the device fails, most of the installation/modification work has to be shifted to replacing the device. I only have one area that I am NOT happy with; and it's because my commutes are pretty short and this limits the time I can enjoy this next gen system!
