I've been a coffee maker and french press user for a long time but decided to give the pouring filter a try. I used to buy another Hario style filter but settled on the stainless steel filter. I've had it for about 3 months and use it at least 1-3 times a week with my Flex Neck kettle. Here are my two cents on this point: 1. Stainless steel is the best part. durable construction for consistent results. You can use it without paper filter and it will work great.2. Design - two-piece filter and stand. easy to handle and use, i wish the stand was more stable and heavier, but that doesn't affect the use. Be careful not to bend the connectors during use.3. filter - There are two things to note about the filter itself. It captures fine grinds well, but not all - it will swallow some residue, but not enough to ruin the coffee's flavor. This may not be a problem with the filter, but rather due to the thinness of the base; The smaller one will gulp a little, but rougher floors are fine. When I use store-bought pre-packaged coffee grounds, residue is often left behind.b. This filter catches water very well. Water does not pass through the side filter and dilutes the taste of the coffee. Water poured into the filter runs down the top and helps with brewing. One more note on the filter itself - if used without a paper filter the end result of the coffee will look "oily", this is a natural process not a design issue. The oiliness comes from the fact that the oil is removed from the coffee beans by hot water during the roasting process. If you use a paper filter, the paper filter usually absorbs all the oil.4. easy to clean - a few dumps will eliminate almost all bases. The brush that comes with it works amazingly well if you use warm water with a little dish soap. Overall I like and enjoy this filter and it gives a good (but not great) taste of coffee. Some may have complained that the drain took too long - I respectfully disagree. The basting is meant to slow the drain so it has time to brew up the coffee grounds. I have another ceramic filter (Hario style) that takes even longer to drain. Using a Pour Over is almost like an art, where the combination of the filter, hot water, coffee grounds, gooseneck kettle and hand movements all contribute to a better tasting and enjoyable coffee.
